By now we’re used to hearing how much addiction destroys families, but seldom do images and media so blatantly depict its harsh realities. As of today, however, this statement became a little less true. A film that many are speculating will be the year’s best, “Moonlight” officially opens today in theaters all over the country. It is a film adaptation of the widely acclaimed play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, and a collaboration between filmmaker Barry Jenkins and original playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney. Moonlight is based loosely on both men’s stories of growing up with crack-addicted mothers in the Miami housing project, incidentally, an area that is not too far from RU National’s facilities.
